There’s still plenty of snow on the ground in Milwaukee, but in Maryvale, Arizona, spring is just a few days away.

The Brewers big league pitchers and catchers are set to report on Saturday, the 15th, with position players following a few days later on Friday the 21st.

The team’s first game is scheduled for Thursday, the 27th, when they take on the Oakland Athletics.

As big league report dates approach, the minor leaguers won’t be far behind.

Here’s a quick look at the Brewers upcoming 2014 spring training from a minor league perspective.

FIVE THINGS TO WATCH FOR:

1. New Faces – There will be plenty of new faces in camp for the Brewers, after a busy offseason. A number of veterans were signed to minor league deals which included big league spring training invites. First basemen Lyle Overbay and Mark Reynolds, pitcher Zach Duke and infielder Irving Falu are among the players on minor league contracts that will be joining the Brewers in camp. Others, like infielder Pete Orr, outfielders Jeremy Hermida and Greg Golson, and pitcher Brad Mills will be taking part in Milwaukee’s minor league camp.

2. The Walking Wounded – Several Brewers prospects will be looking to bounce back from injuries that cut short their 2013 season. Lefty Jed Bradley was shut down in July after 16 starts at Brevard County. Reliever Seth Harvey underwent Tommy John surgery in May. Right-handed pitcher Chad Thompson missed all of the 2013 season, and 19-year-old infielder Carlos Belonis, one of the Brewers top prospects from the DSL, played in just two games before suffering a broken thumb last summer. All will be hoping to return to the diamond this season.

3. First-time Campers – This will be the first spring training for all of the Brewers 2013 draft choices. Of particular interest to fans, will be right-handed pitcher Devin Williams. The Brewers first selection in the second round of last year’s draft, hopes are high for the 19-year-old Williams. Some other draftees to keep an eye on include infielders Tucker Neuhaus and Garrett Cooper, outfielders Omar Garcia and Brandon Diaz, and pitchers Barrett Astin, Taylor Williams and Josh Uhen.

4. Coaching Staff Changes – There was shuffling of the coaching staffs up and down the organization this offseason, and there will be plenty of new blood in the dugouts in 2014. The Nashville Sounds and Huntsville Stars will each be led by new skippers. Rick Sweet will take over at the helm for Triple-A Nashville, and Carlos Subero will be the new man in charge at Double-A Huntsville. In addition, several of the team’s pitching and hitting coaches have been assigned to new levels within the organization. 5. Big League Action – Spring training is often a great opportunity for some of the younger players to find their way in to Major League games. Many of the minor league players will see action, late in contests, as the starters exit the game. The Brewers also have a pair of split squad games on March 1st and March 9th, which will allow for many more of the young players to make their way over to big league camp for the day.

REPORT DATES: 24 Brewers minor league players, including Tyrone Taylor, Yadiel Rivera, and Tyler Wagner reported to Maryvale last weekend as part of the team’s winter session. Others, like Cameron Garfield, David Goforth and Mitch Haniger will be reporting with the big league club, to spend time in camp as non-roster invitees.

The remaining players will trickle in over the next few weeks, with early camp set to begin on February 21st and the remaining pitchers and catchers due to report on Wednesday, March 5th. Remaining minor league position players will follow, two days later, on March 7th.

The Brewers will hold several practices and intrasquad games, before beginning games against other organizations on Friday, March 14th.

SPRING TRAINING SCHEDULES:

Starting March 14th each of the Brewers four full season affiliates will play a 14 game schedule. The teams will rotate home and road games, with Nashville and Huntsville playing at the same facilities, and Brevard County and Wisconsin playing at the same facilities. When Nashville and Huntsville are at Maryvale Baseball Park, Brevard County and Wisconsin will travel to another team’s facility, when Brevard County and Wisconsin are at Maryvale Baseball Park, Nashville and Huntsville will go on the road. All games start at 1:00pm Arizona time unless otherwise noted.
