NASHVILLE 4 at Iowa 1 – The Sounds got a solid six innings from starter Mike Fiers and defeated the Iowa Cubs 4-1. Fiers allowed just one run on three hits while striking out nine. Second baseman Pete Orr went 2-for-4 with a triple and Elian Herrera and Eugenio Velez each chipped in two hits as well.

BREVARD COUNTY 6 at Lakeland 0 – The Manatees jumped out to an early 3-0 lead on Victor Roache’s first home run of the season in the first inning. They tacked on three more runs in the fourth and cruised to a 6-0 victory. Michael Reed and Garrett Cooper each had two hits for the ‘Tees. Hobbs Johnson started and worked six scoreless innings for Brevard.

WISCONSIN 2 at West Michigan 3 – The Timber Rattlers had their chances, loading the bases with nobody out in the ninth inning, but couldn’t get the tying run home, falling by a run to the WhiteCaps. Omar Garcia and Chris McFarland each reached base three times and each stole a base as well. Zach Quintana started for Wisconsin and allowed just one run in four innings. Tyler Linehan worked 3.2 innings, and took the loss, though both runs scored off of him were unearned.






Omar Garcia (Wisconsin) – The 20-year-old Garcia, who was selected in the seventh round of last year’s draft by Milwaukee, continued his hot start to the season, going 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles. His performance upped his season average to .438 and he also swiped his team leading fourth stolen base.



Hobbs Johnson (Brevard County) – The 2013 14th rounder made 11 appearances last season, but all came in relief. Making his first professional start tonight, Johnson tossed six innings of two-hit ball, picking up the win for the Manatees. He struck out four and walked just one.



Nashville continues their series at Iowa with a matinee on Wednesday afternoon. The Sounds and Cubs will square off, with first pitch scheduled for 12:05 pm. Johnny Hellweg makes his second start of the year for the Sounds. Huntsville plays host to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos in their home opener at 6:30 pm. Brooks Hall will be on the hill for the Stars. Brevard County is at Lakeland with Tyler Wagner getting his second start. Game time is 5:30 pm. Wisconsin and West Michigan continue their series, with a 5:35 start. Tyler Alexander gets his first start of the year for the Timber Rattlers.
