Vaughn was originally drafted by the Brewers with the fourth pick of the first round in 1986 out of the University of Miami. He made his Major League debut with Milwaukee in 1989 and played for eight seasons with the Brewers. The slugger from Sacramento, California was selected to represent the Brewers in the All-Star game in both 1993 and 1996 and quickly became a fan favorite, spawning the famous “Vaughn’s Valley” in the left field bleachers at Milwaukee County Stadium.
Martens, a Milwaukee native, is in his 27th season with the Brewers, having joined the team in 1987 as an assistant of baseball operations. 2014 marks his first season in his current role as Milwaukee’s Director of Minor League Operations.
After not having a pick until #54 overall last season, Milwaukee has four picks in the top 85 in 2014, including the 12th pick overall in the first round. The Brewers also have pick #41 in the Competitive Balance Round A, pick # in the second round and pick #85 in the third round. From rounds 4-40 Milwaukee will have pick number eleven in each round.
