NASHVILLE 1, Memphis 0
The Sounds got a home run from shortstop Hector Gomez and that would account for the only run of the game as they knocked off Memphis 1-0. Gomez finished the night 2-for-5 with a homer and a double. Tom Gorzelanny made the start and went 2.1 innings, allowing just one hit. Dustin Molleken got the final two outs of the third before turning things over to Jimmy Nelson. Nelson pitched the final six shutout frames, allowing just two hits and striking out seven.
The first game of the Stars scheduled doubleheader with Mobile was suspended by rain in the fifth inning with the game in a scoreless tie. The teams will finish the game on Saturday prior to the regularly scheduled game.
Bradenton 5, BREVARD COUNTY 4
The Manatees held a 4-0 lead heading to the seventh, but Bradenton picked up a run in the seventh, two in the eighth, one in the ninth and another in the twelfth to knock off Brevard. Chad Pierce started and pitched six scoreless innings, allowing just two hits. Scott Lieser followed and gave up three runs in 1.1 innings before being replaced by Mark Williams who allowed an unearned run which tied the game. Michael Strong pitched three innings and gave up the game winning run in the twelfth. Nathan Orf went 4-for-6 with four singles, Nicky Delmonico singled and doubled and Cameron Garfield collected a pair of singles.
Cedar Rapids 8, WISCONSIN 12
Wisconsin topped Cedar Rapids in a slugfest that saw a total of 20 runs scored on 21 hits. Shortstop Angel Ortega led the offense, going 3-for-4 with a triple while Johnny Davis picked up three singles and stole a pair of bases. Omar Garcia and Francisco Castillo each singled twice with Castillo knocking in three runs. Zach Quintana started for the Timber Rattlers but went just an inning plus, allowing five runs. Chris Razo followed and went three innings, allowing two runs to pick up the win. Tristan Archer gave up just one run over the final five innings to notch his third save.
DSL BREWERS 4, DSL Blue Jays 3
Down 3-0 in the ninth, the Brewers rallied back to tie the game, then scored a run in the top of the tenth and held on for a 4-3 win. Nelson Hernandez started for the Brewers and went five innings, allowing two runs. Jesus Brea followed and gave up one run in an inning of work. Boanerges Nova then tossed two shutout innings, and Doni Arias pitched the final two innings without allowing a run to earn the win. Kevin Martinez continued to hammer DSL pitching, going 3-for-5 with a double to raise his season average to .476. Nicolas Pierre also extended his hot start, going 3-for-6 with a double and has a hit in each of his first six games this season. Franly Mallen singled and walked twice in five plate appearances.

Nathan Orf (Brevard County Manatees) – 4-for-6, R
As Brevard’s leadoff hitter, Orf picked up four base hits in six at bats for the Manatees. He raised his season batting average to .273 and in his last two games has gone 7-for-10. Orf has 45 hits in 48 games and has an on base percentage of .406.
Chad Pierce (Brevard County) – 6 IP, 0 R, 2 H
Making a spot start for Brevard County, Pierce went six innings without allowing a run, and surrendering just two hits. The outing lowered Pierce’s earned run average to 3.25 on the season.
The Brewers activated relief pitcher Greg Holle from the disabled list at Class-A Brevard County on Friday. To make room, first baseman Garrett Cooper was sent to Wisconsin of the Midwest League.
