NASHVILLE 0, Memphis 1

The Sounds were shut out on getaway day in Memphis, losing 1-0. Mike Fiers was the hard-luck loser after going seven innings and giving up just one run and striking out eight. Eugenio Velez collected three of the four Nashville base hits, all singles, and first baseman Matt Clark picked up the only other hit, going 1-for-4.

HUNTSVILLE 3, Chattanooga 5

A three run seventh inning for Chattanooga helped defeat the Stars 5-3. Drew Gagnon made the start and went 5.2 innings, allowing just two runs. Greg Holle followed Gagnon and was charged with the loss after giving up three runs in an inning of work. Yadiel Rivera went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles while Adam Weisenburger added a single and two walks.

BREVARD COUNTY, Lakeland Suspended (Rain)

Brevard’s game barely got started before the rain came and forced another suspension for the Manatees. The game was rescheduled to August 26th as part of a doubleheader.

WISCONSIN 5, Cedar Rapids 7

The Rattlers were done in by a five run eighth inning for Cedar Rapids as they lost 7-5. Dustin DeMuth, Johnny Davis and Angel Ortega each picked up two hits for Wisconsin. Taylor Williams started and went seven innings, allowing two runs before giving way to Tyler Alexander. Alexander was charged with all five eighth inning runs and took the loss after he wound up going just two-thirds of an inning.

HELENA, Orem Suspended (Rain)

Like Brevard County, Helena’s game was also suspended due to rain with Orem leading 1-0 in the top of the fifth inning. The game will be completed on Friday night prior to the regularly scheduled game.

AZL BREWERS 3, AZL White Sox 7

The White Sox knocked off the Brewers on Thursday night by a score of 7-3. Bubba Blau took the loss for the Brewers after giving up a pair of unearned runs in three innings on the mound. Milton Gomez and Alejandro Lavandero each allowed two runs and Andy Hillis surrendered one in an inng of relief. Monte Harrison tripled and David Denson added a double in his return to action. Matt Martin, Milan Post and Johnathan Oquendo each singled for the only other Brewers hits.


The Brewers used a five run third inning to help knock off the Braves 8-1 on Thursday. Joan De la Cruz started and earned the win after going five innings and giving up just one run. Carlos Luna followed with three scoreless innings and Axel Cordero worked a scoreless ninth. First baseman Nicol Valderrey and second baseman Julio Mendez each collected two hits while Kevin Martinez added a triple and Nicolas Pierre doubled. Joantgel Segovia moved back in to the three spot and reached base in three of five at bats with a single, a walk and a hit-by-pitch.

The Sounds managed just four hits as a team on Thursday, but three of the four came off the bat of second baseman Eugenio Velez. The versatile Velez raised his season average to .311.

Mike Fiers (Nashville Sounds) – Stats

Fiers went seven innings in the Nashville loss, allowing just one run on fours hits. He walked only one batter while striking out eight.



The Brewers promoted pitcher Jimmy Nelson from Triple-A Nashville, placing reliever Wei-Chung Wang on the disabled list.
