Here’s a quick look at some of the Brewers minor leaguers who have been making an impact in recent weeks, in our latest edition of the Farm Progress Report.
Tyler Wagner (Brevard County) – Wagner continues to baffle FSL hitters and has gone 3-0 with a 0.61 earned run average in the month of July. He hasn’t given up more than one run in a start since June 3rd and has an incredible 1.61 earned run average in 18 starts this season.
Chris McFarland (Wisconsin) – The 21-year-old second baseman has been scorching at the plate in recent weeks, hitting .439 over his last ten games. He currently owns an eight game hitting streak and has a season average of .306 with six home runs and 24 stolen bases despite missing over a month earlier this season due to injury.
Drew Gagnon (Huntsville) – The former third-round pick out of Long Beach State has allowed only two earned runs in each of his last three starts for the Stars. For the season he has a record of 7-4 with a 3.20 earned run average.
Sthervin Matos (Helena) – Matos is in the midst of an 11 game hitting streak in which he’s hitting .372. Since being promoted to Helena from the Arizona League, the 20-year-old Dominican is batting .386 with four home runs and 19 runs batted in.
Hector Gomez (Nashville) – Gomez is hitting .343 over his last ten games with a pair of home runs and seven runs batted in. He homered in back-to-back games on July 20th and 21st and 34 of his 87 hits this season have gone for extra bases.
Cameron Garfield (Brevard County) – Garfield is batting .333 with four doubles and a triple over his last eight games for the Manatees. He’s also thrown out 36% of opposing base runners who have attempted to steal on him this season while committing just seven errors defensively.
Taylor Williams (Wisconsin) – The 5’11” righty from Kent State has not allowed more than two runs in an outing since May and has a 1.66 ERA through four July appearances. For the season, Williams has a record of 7-1 with a 2.63 earned run average.
Carlos Belonis (AZL Brewers) – Belonis has hit safely in eight of his last ten games, posting a .357 average during that span. He had multi-hit games in five of those contests, including a 4-for-5 game on July 23rd that included a double and a walk.Yadiel Rivera (Huntsville) – The 22-year-old shortstop has adjusted to Double-A well so far. He’s batting .360 over his last nine contests, and is hitting .284 in 26 games since his promotion.
Nicolas Pierre (DSL Brewers) – Pierre has hit safely in eight of his last nine games and is batting .371 over that span. He leads the Brewers Dominican Summer League team in doubles, with nine, and is second on the team in home runs, with three.
Mike Strong (Brevard County) – Strong has not allowed a run in any of his last seven appearances, including a spot start on July 17th in which he tossed four scoreless innings. In 24 appearances this season, he has a 2.36 ERA and has struck out almost a batter per inning with 42 punchouts in 45.2 innings of work.
Gregory Munoz (Helena) – Munoz is hitting .421 over his last ten contests, including a pair of three hit games on July 14th and July 19th. His season average is up to .310 and nine of his 35 hits have gone for extra bases.
Jed Bradley (Huntsville) – In the month of July, Bradley has a record of 2-1 with a 3.52 earned run average in four starts. He tossed five scoreless in a win against Tennessee on July 19th and for the season has a record of 8-7 with a 3.57 ERA between Brevard County and Huntsville.
Joshua Torres (AZL Brewers) – In five July appearances, Torres has allowed only three earned runs and has a record of 2-0 with a 1.37 ERA. He has struck out 18 while walking just six in 26.1 innings this season.
Nathan Orf (Brevard County) – Orf has strung together another six game hitting streak and is batting .375 over his last ten. For the season, the 24-year-old non-drafted free agent out of Baylor is hitting .314 with a .411 on base percentage.
Clint Terry (Wisconsin) – The 22-year-old Terry has given up just one earned run over his last 17 1/3 innings of work. In the month of July, he has a record of 2-0 with an 0.55 ERA and has racked up 18 strikeouts in 16.1 innings.
Ryan Deeter (Helena) – Deeter has been one of the bright spots on the Helena pitching staff, having not allowed a run in any of his first eight appearances. The 23-year-old from UCLA has struck out 11 batters in 9.2 innings on the mound and has surrendered just three hits.
