Affiliate Playoff Possibilities
We’re in to the final full week of the Minor League season and several of the Brewers affiliates are in line to earn a playoff spot (or in the case of Huntsville, have already clinched one). Here is a quick breakdown of each team’s possible playoff chances.
Nashville – The Sounds are locked in a first place tie with Memphis in the Pacific Coast League’s American Southern Division with eight games left to play. Only the division winners gain a playoff berth. Nashville and Memphis split their season series 8-8. The Sounds have three more games against Sacramento before finishing the regular season with five games at Round Rock.
Huntsville – The Stars have already clinched a playoff spot, after winning the first half title in the Southern League’s North Division. They’ll square off against the second half winners of their division. Tennessee currently holds a one game lead over Chattanooga in the second half.
Brevard County – The Manatees are five games back of first place Daytona with just seven games remaining in their season. While not mathematically eliminated quite yet, their odds of making the playoffs are slim. Tampa also sits ahead of Brevard County with Daytona and Tampa wrapping up their season with a three game set in Daytona.
Wisconsin – 8 of 16 Midwest League teams make the playoffs, leaving the Timber Rattlers in good shape to earn a playoff berth. Kane County was the first half champion in the Midwest League’s Western Division with Burlington earning the wild card. Kane County is leading the second half as well, with Cedar Rapids in second place. Wisconsin sits in third place which would be good enough to earn the second half wild card. They are two games up on Peoria and Quad Cities with eight games to play. The Rattlers host Beloit for two more games, then Burlington comes to town for three games before Wisconsin wraps up the season with three in Beloit.
Helena – Helena’s playoff odds, while still technically alive, are very very slim. They are currently in fourth place in the Pioneer League’s North Division. They are 6.5 games back of first place Billings with 13 left to play.
AZL Brewers – Despite a record of 8-14 in the second half of the season, the Maryvale team remains in good shape to secure a playoff spot. The Indians won the first half in the AZL Central Division and have taken the second half as well. That leaves a playoff spot open for the team with the second best overall record in the divison, which is currently the Brewers. With five games to play, they hold a game and a half lead over the Dodgers and the Reds.
DSL Brewers – The Dominican Summer League’s regular season is in the books and the Brewers did not qualify for the playoffs, finishing in last place at 27-43 in the DSL San Pedro de Macoris Division.
