The Brewers continued to look for options at third base for the 2016 season, adding former Padres and Red Sox Will Middlebrooks on Tuesday.
Originally drafted in the fifth round of the 2007 draft by Boston, Middlebrooks ranked as one of the Red Sox top prospects, making his Major League debut with Boston in May 2012.
In three seasons with the Red Sox, Middlebrooks hit a combined .237 with 34 home runs and 122 runs batted in.
Middlebrooks was traded by Boston to the San Diego Padres in December of 2014 in exchange for catcher Ryan Hanigan and appeared in 83 games with the Padres last season, hitting .212 with nine home runs and 29 runs batted in. He was designated for assignment in late July and finished the year at Triple-A El Paso.
