Spring Training Game Recap: 3/12/16

ROCKIES 6, BREWERS 7

The Brewers finally got back into the win column on Saturday as they topped the Rockies 7-6 in a back-and-forth contest at Maryvale Baseball Park. Milwaukee got on the board first, with a run in the bottom of the first inning when Eric Young, Jr. scored on an RBI double by Domingo Santana and they added another in the second as Will Middlebrooks doubled home Shane Peterson to make the score 2-0. Taylor Jungmann started and tossed three scoreless innings for the Brewers, but the Rockies responded with three runs in the fourth off of Tyler Cravy. Milwaukee snatched the lead right back in the bottom of the fourth however, when Colin Walsh doubled off the wall in left to knock in Alex Presley and Orlando Arcia. Jonathan Lucroy then followed with a two-out opposite field single to right, scoring Walsh to make the score 5-3. The Rockies chipped into the lead with a run off of Hiram Burgos in the fifth then tied things up with another in the top of the sixth. Orlando Arcia quickly put the Brewers back on top though, leading off the bottom of the sixth with a long home run to left field. The tug-of-war continued in the seventh when the Rockies scored a run off of reliever Ariel Pena, but Keon Broxton drove in Jacob Nottingham in the bottom of the inning to again put the Brewers on top, this time for good. Daniel Tillman and Jacob Barnes shut down Colorado from there as the Brewers notched the victory. Pena was credited with the win for Milwaukee while Barnes recorded the save.
