The Brewers minor league players finally take the field for some game action today as they go up against the Cincinnati Reds affiliates. Colorado Springs and Biloxi will be playing at the Reds facility in Goodyear, while Brevard County and Wisconsin are at home in Maryvale.
Taking a look at the lineups for today’s games, a few things immediately jumped out at me. First of all, several names were missing, including outfielders Brett Phillips and Tyrone Taylor, catcher Carlos Leal and first baseman Tyrone Perry. We know Phillips has been down for a while now with an oblique injury, but haven’t heard any news on the other three as of yet. In the case of someone like Taylor, it could just be that he’ll be tagging along with the big league club today so we’ll try not to read too much into anything just yet.
On a little bit brighter note, there are also some familiar faces who are back in the lineup today. Outfielder Monte Harrison, who suffered a serious leg injury last July is starting in right field for Wisconsin while Joantgel Segovia (ankle) and Dustin DeMuth (hand) are in center field and at first base respectively for Brevard County.
Another thing that stood out while perusing the lineups was where several prospects will be positioned defensively this afternoon. The most noteable is Jake Gatewood who is making the transition to third base and will be getting the start at the hot corner for Brevard. Newly acquired Isan Diaz, who some believe will eventually make the move to second base, is starting at shortstop for Wisconsin while Brandon Diaz, who saw some action at second base during instructonal league, is back in the outfield, starting in left for the Manatees.
All four games are slated for 1:00 PM start times in Arizona today with all four squads scheduled to match up with the Chicago White Sox tomorrow.
