The Milwaukee Brewers continue to look for ways to bolster their bullpen at the big league level, acquiring 27-year-old right-handed reliever Jhan Marinez from the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday evening in exchange for cash.
Marinez, a native of the Dominican Republic, was signed by the Florida Marlins as a teenager back in 2006. He made his major league debut with the Marlins in 2010 and appeared in four games for them, going 1-1 but was traded to the White Sox near the end of the 2011 season. He made two relief appearances for Chicago in 2012 before spending time in the minor leagues with the Detroit Tigers, Los Angeles Dodgers and Tampa Bay Rays.
Marinez finally made it back to the big leagues this season with the Rays, making three relief appearances and allowing just one earned run in 3.1 innings of work.
To make room on their roster, the Brewers designated recently acquired left-hander Michael Kirkman for assignment.
